Purma Cameras Ltd | Purma Plus (1) | Other | Other

1951-60 | ALUMINIUM ROLLFILM CAMERA This is the first of four variants of the Purma Plus, developed from the bakelite Purma Special of 1935-7. Made from 1951, this first Purma Plus was lacquered in plain matt aluminium and black and could make accidental exposures with the lens cap in place, not a good selling point for a sixteen exposure camera in the holiday snaps bracket. Variant two, from 1953, was a similar plain colour, but had a sprung pin in the lens mount which pushed in to prevent exposures when the lens cap was in place. The third version was made to sell for £12.12s and was identical with the second version except that it had polished aluminium and patches of red trim. A further late 50s update, possibly to be construed as a fourth version, had a glossy grey "Hammerite" type paint job in place of the polished aluminium.
