Underwood, E and T | The Field | Other | Half Plate

1900 Another addition to my Underwoods stable. I have still some way to go if I want to collect them all, as it is known that by 1896 they were producing at least seventeen named models of camera in mahogany and brass, plus two black magazine cameras. "The Field", from their 1900 catalogue, carries the label "Underwoods' Patent"; this refers to the method of locating the sprung front fork of the camera with two spigots, which engage in holes at each side of the fork. Underwoods' cameras don't seem to stand the test of time; all the ones I have acquired came to me in a bad state. This one had been extensively "restored" before I got it, and has had to be re-done, though it doesn't appear to have been the very best quality from the outset.
