Riley Brothers | The Stanley | English | Half Plate

ENGLISH FIELD CAMERA. 1891. The 'Stanley', a high quality triple extension field camera by Riley Brothers of Bradford, came to me with a bag changing magazine back. I had bought it unseen thinking it was a camera by W. F. Stanley of Railway Approaches, London Bridge, so I had to research it a bit when I collected it from the auction room, which had quite correctly catalogued it as a Stanley camera. Channing and Dunn have an entry for it in their 'British Camera Makers', but they say they have never seen one, just a review of it in The Photography Annual of 1891. I like it, and it's worth a place in a collection of C19th British cameras.
