Middlemiss, W | Patent Field Camera | English | Whole Plate

ENGLISH FIELD CAMERA. 1886. W. Middlemiss was a camera maker in Nesfield Street, Bradford, Yorkshire from 1883. The firm was in existence until 1906. His 1886 patent No. 5450 described a method of securing the front standard and back of a camera to the baseboard using struts and catches which enabled easy folding, 'giving all the swing movements yet no complicated mechanism'. The back can also be moved forward for wide angle use. Middlemiss made this 'Patent Camera' from 1886, using Marion and Co. as his sole agents. It is a rare camera; I have never seen another, and I don't think I am likely to.
